In Memory of Oscar Columbus (Sarge) Rogers
1928 - 2007

 


Oscar “Sarge” Rogers age 79 of Kingston, passed away Thursday December 20, 2007. He was born in Orange, TX. He enlisted in the Marine Corp at an early age and was a veteran of WWII and Korea. Later he retired in San Diego, CA. He and his surviving spouse, Carrie Rogers relocated to Kingston in 1987 where he became active in the Calvary Baptist Church, and the Fort Southwest Point. Other survivors include; Step-son; Redford Norman and wife Gloria of Kingston.

Sarge was Fort Southwest Point Committee Chairman for most of it's existence.  He was a noted Fort and Kingston Historian.  Sarge loved to travel to the schools to relate history in his unique fashion or to speak to the different groups that toured the fort.  He had an extensive collection of 18th Century Goods that he would display at the fort, (some of these are on display at the fort now).  Sarge was instrumental in getting the forts reconstruction project underway.
